The Cosmos flowers are beautiful, useful, and utterly delightful around our house as they grace the sage garden and flourish under the big old olive tree and dance in the breeze near the birdbath by the caper bush! The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Their open faces make it easy for the good guys of the insect world to access the nectar and the pollen. As one gardener put it, "You can never have enough pollinators and predator insects in your garden, helping pollinate and pest manage for you." And not only do the good guys of the insect world enjoy them, we humans do too! The flower petals are completely edible and make a cheerful addition to any salad!
They are easy to care for and bloom with vibrant colors all the way from spring into autumn. They love the sun and can survive quite nicely in dry regions; they will drink the dew if need be! As a cut flower, they're awesome too! They last 7-10 days if you recut the stems regularly and keep them in fresh water.
