The Upside of Downs at Mulberry Lane Farm

Here on the small farm, a big mission grows - as the horizon brightens for differently-abled farmers

About us

The Upside of Downs is now headquartered on Mulberry Lane Farm outside a small southern California town.  Here on the small farm a big mission grows - as the horizon brightens for the participating differently-abled farmers.  Here on the farm, our day program volunteers in the Up on the Farm program participate in agricultural hands-on, hearts-in experiential learning.  They learn new skills, old-fashioned methods, and interact in meaningful, productive ways with each other and with nature.  There is no participation fee and each special farmer is accompanied by his/her caregiver, parent, or job coach. Along with all hands-on, hearts-in aspects of the farm, the Up on the Farm crews also operate a little seed shop they helped create called the Bright Horizon Seeds company. The small on-line seed shop on Etsy (link below) is where the crews share newly-learned skills and hone others - seed harvesting, seed saving, gleaning, cleaning, counting, packaging, and mailing seeds from various rare and tropical trees and flowers they’ve found on the 6 acres of Mulberry Lane Farm.

Making a purchase from their little on-line seed shop creates an uplifting wind beneath their wings - the crews love sharing the results of their hard work - lots of smiles are created in the Bright Horizon Seeds shop! And lots of beautiful and unusual plants and trees are created in new garden homes throughout the country!

Back then and now…

Since 1998, our Upside of Downs non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization has been working, growing, gathering, and sharing the Upside of life! Much like farmers do when they share the bounty from their bit of earth.
